December Book Club
We are big believers in self education. Learning and understanding from a position of interest to you and in the best way for each individual. Reading can provide a brilliant tool for us all to learn at our own pace and at our own speed. With millions of texts out there covering thousands more subjects there is always something to interest everyone.
As part of the Awakening Project we have another great book for you this month focusing on the topics of animal rights, ethics and the truth behind, meat, vivisection and how we view and treat animals as objects and not beings.
In Defence of Animals - Peter Singer
In defence of Animals - the second wave, is a book made up of a series of documents and essays written by many various authors and edited together by Peter Singer. It covers a vast range of topics on animal rights, cruelty and abuse, and looks at the problems and issues from many varying points of view. The sections come from various philosophers, activists and scientists and yet all conclusions point us in the same direction. That being that man's domination over animals and our continued mistreatment, abuse and neglect have left many species on the brink of extinction, whilst countless others are enslaved and viewed as tools for producing clothing, meat, milk or eggs.
It is a hard read, especially for anyone who has a deep love for all living things, but it is a necessary read if we are to understand the reality that countless animals live every day of their lives on this planet. From factory farming practices to circuses and entertainment, vivisection and experimentation or fashion we have removed ourselves from their sentient existence in the desire for a product and in so doing have long since left the path of compassion when it comes to how we treat our fellow living creatures on this planet.
A must read.
